My favourite places, like my favourite people, tend to be complicated.You can waste a lot of time going somewhere 1 , but I've come to appreciate the value in going nowhere, which is why my favourite place in the world 2 to be just down the street from my home—South Shore. South Shore is a beach for all 3 . However, I prefer autumn.In autumn, there aren't lifeguards.My ocean swims are pleasantly uninterrupted, but the absence of protectors means lots of 4 when I brush against something that might be a jellyfish, or a shark, or a whale, depending on how vivid my 5 is that day. The beach attracts a lot of students in autumn, 6 the students of art from Rhode Island School of Design.In the late afternoon, when the sun is 7 , a string of campfires 8 the way down the beach; you walk past many guitar­strumming ( 弹吉他的 ) loners, 9 you of the memories of the days when you, too, were a young arty person. There is less rubbish to 10 on an autumn beach walk, but remains of sea life are always 11 here and there and you have to be careful in order not to step on them, 12 you can see people with a bag full of dead sea life.Still, the place is 13 to undeveloped for it is on the far East Coast. The beach in autumn gives people a strong feeling of 14 . Even the light of the sun in the late afternoon, as if it wanted to 15 time, brings on nostalgia( 怀旧 ) .
