The mystery (悬案) around the disappearance of the famous crime writer Agatha Christie in 1926 was almost as 1 as any of her exciting stories. At about 11 o"clock on the evening of Friday, December 3rd, Mrs. Christie got into her car and took a drive without saying 2 she was going. She didn"t return.
The next morning her car was found without 3 at Newlands Corner, Surrey. It was 4 put on record that the Surrey Police did not find 5 until 11:00 that morning. People 6 that she might have killed herself. 7 as the days went by, it was suggested that she was 8 The press and the public naturally took great interest in the 9 , with at least one newspaper offering a reward (悬赏) to anyone who could find the 10 writer.
Of course the police did their best to 11 her. But, sadly, after a week"s 12 they had made no progress. In the end they decided that Agatha must 13 the area.
Agatha finally made 14 on Tuesday, December 14th, when she was reunited with 15 at a hotel in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. It was said she had been staying at the hotel for the past 10 16 under the name of "Mrs. Theresa Neele". Her husband said, "She has suffered from the most complete loss of 17 and I do not think she knows who she is."
Agatha Christie hated 18 She seldom met reporters and made no 19 this time. The only 20 she made was that she had lost her memory, although with the help of a doctor she did manage to remember some of what she had done during her disappearance.
