【简答题】
I live in Los Angeles and I take the bus. I’ve been taking the bus since January 2008, when I got rid of my car. While taking the bus, I often meet others who travel this city without a car. I go by myself, with a medium format camera and a book to read on the bus. Sometimes these travels make me think of the 19th Century photographers (摄影师). They went through mountain passes to record the expansive and mysterious views of the West. These trips have led me to discover the modern West and its car culture. Those who I am taking pictures of are trying to lead normal lives in this modern West. I am going to photograph and interview 100 people without cars. Through the images and information from the interviews, the project will help us know how car culture has influenced our understanding of the city. Those who I am taking pictures of have given up their cars for a variety of reasons. The reasons range from anxiety (焦虑) after painful car accidents, environmental protection, to a dislike of the car culture. By bringing these various voices together through the images and information, the project will finally solve the problems of cars. It will also provide a voice for those who have no automobiles.
