Denmark did not fight Nazi Germany. By cooperating under false 4 , the Danish government had a good relationship with Nazis. In this way, it hoped to protect Danish lives and cultural 5 for as long as possible. The angry people of Denmark used their brains to resist the Nazi occupation. They had strikes to stop the production of German war materials. They had students refuse to speak German in language classes. They even had Danish songfests ( 歌咏大会 ) 6 the nation to show strength and unity ( 团结 ). In the fall of 1943, Nazi troops arrived to round up and send all Danish Jews to concentration camps outside Denmark. The Danes created a secret system for saving the lives of Jewish citizens. Jewish families 7 to the villages on the coast, before fishing boats helped them escape to safety in Sweden. Through a combination of all of these 8 acts of resistance, the power and unity of the Danes pushed back the Nazis. For Danish Jews, it was a 9 that only around 500 were sent to a concentration camp and 7550 10 . Demark was, therefore, the only European country to save almost all of its Jewish citizens from the Holocaust.
